History:

The historical beginning of the Department of Computer Systems can be considered the year 1967, when a new department was established in the Faculty of Agronomy of LLA - the Department of Economic Mathematical Methods and Computing Techniques.
The head of the department was approved by the assistant professor of the Department of Higher Mathematics, candidate of technical sciences. Albert Krastiņu. In 1970, it was renamed the Department of Economic Cybernetics. In 1990, it got the name of the Department of Informatics, and in 1992 it became one of the structural units of the Institute of Informatics.

The Department of Computer Systems got its name in 2001, with the establishment of the Faculty of Information Technology, and it is still the leading structural unit in the entire faculty. Faculty members of the department also teach specialized study courses.
